The absolute winner of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 was the company Gevorkyan a.s. of entrepreneur Artur Gevorkyan. Artur comes from Armenia and came to Slovakia to do business in 1996.

"I perceive Slovakia as a very peaceful and safe country that is clean and beautiful. Slovaks are very nice people and we feel good here," he says, recalling how humanely healthcare workers during Covid and police officers in the foreign police treated his mother, who has Parkinson's.

His company is a leader in powder metallurgy in Europe and one of the most innovative companies in this sector worldwide. As he says, powder metallurgy is used not only in the automotive industry, but also in cosmetics, medicine, the oil industry, gardening, arms and aerospace industries.

“I grew up in Armenia under socialism, my parents and I lived in a studio apartment all our lives and we were constantly moving because my father was always dissatisfied with how it was possible that an engineer of his level couldn't make more money in factories and wasn't fairly paid,” Gevorkyan says in the podcast.

V roku 1991 emigroval z Arménska a založil na Ukrajine prvý súkromný závod. O päť rokov neskôr prišiel na Slovensko a položil základy firmy v Banskej Bystrici.

In 1991, he emigrated from Armenia and founded the first private factory in Ukraine. Five years later, he came to Slovakia and laid the foundations of the company in Banská Bystrica.

What can Slovaks be proud of and how does our culture differ from Armenian? Why did he join the army under socialism? Why do processes proceed faster with the Nordic countries than with the Southern ones? In which industries is powder metallurgy used? What was his childhood like in Armenia and why did he choose Slovakia?
